How do I make a huge splash with my launch?

A lot of Founders worry about trying to make a big splash when they launch. The reality is – unless you’ve got a lot of money or have somehow figured out how to have a viral launch (which if you read the blogs is somehow easy to do…) it’s actually incredibly hard to build a lot of pre-launch anticipation. The reality is you’re probably going to launch to pretty much nobody. Most launches are highly anticipated and complete duds. Think crickets, not people rushing to your site and crashing your servers!
A highly anticipated but weak launch is embarrassing and kind of painful to experience – I’ve certainly been there myself multiple times. Plan instead to launch to yourself and your friends and family and people you know. If you get the product out early, there’s definitely time for perfecting everything and for having a bug-free experience before you hit any type of real scale.
Having the best features and design will come way down the road after you’ve got some feedback, and you may realize that you need to pivot your entire model shortly after launch anyways. Focus on just getting something out the door to start getting feedback on it that’s most critical.
