How is marketing different from growth?

Growth and marketing are very much related. Many growth teams work under the product organization because they look both at acquisition (typically “owned” by marketing) and activation/revenue/retention (typically “owned” by product). A lot of marketing teams focus mostly on the top of the funnel at the awareness and acquisition phase.
Some marketing teams will have growth embedded within it, with the growth team being primarily responsible for driving the in-product areas of focus.
