What is out of home advertising?
Marketing Nov 07, 2018
There’s a few different flavors of out of home advertising that I’ll dive into, though this is by no means a comprehensive or final list!
A lot of growth startups – take Uber, Lyft, Airbnb and other fast growing companies like that – are doing a lot of what’s called out-of-home advertising (OOH). Out-of-home campaigns are typically non-digital experiences that people who are out in the physical world are exposed to.
Good examples include billboard ads and experiential marketing programs, but there are some more modern takes on OOH advertising that have come into play in recent years. For example, Wrapify lets you wrap cars in an advertisement and has built a double-sided marketplace of drivers who earn a little bit more money while they drive, and advertisers who want to advertise on those vehicles. Wrapify’s done some really cool stuff around being able to retarget or remarket to the people that have seen the ads or have been in the vicinity of those ads on those cars.
Billboards are another form of out-of-home.
Experiential campaigns are another type. These typically are interactive and involve brand ambassadors representing the business to consumers who gain exposure to the brand.
