What is performance marketing?

Performance marketing is just a fancy way of saying paid marketing and leveraging paid channels that perform on a performance basis, meaning you can track things like clicks and opens if you’re looking at email, or things like ad clicks, cost per click, conversion rates from digital ads, etc.
And there’s definitely overlap between performance marketing and what growth teams often do. Some growth teams handle user acquisition (what we call the top of the funnel) and some growth teams don’t (instead, leaving that to the marketing team). And so it just really depends on the organization that you run and the type of company that you have. And that will help determine what key role your growth team is actually going to perform kind of day to day, and where performance marketing fits in.
